At the center of the island, the Lagoa da Conceição is a lovely lagoon surrounded by thick vegetation, situated between Floripa [1] and the trendy east coast beaches [2] of Praia Mole and Praia da Joaquina. By day, its placid and deliciously warm waters draw families and practitioners of every kind of water sport imaginable. Come sundown, an abundance of trendy restaurants, bars, and nightclubs make it the gastronomic and nightlife spot of Ilha de Santa Catarina [3] (which accounts for some serious traffic jams on weekends and holidays).
On the lagoon’s southern shore, the town of Centro da Lagoa (known alternatively as “Centrinho” or simply as “Lagoa”) is where most of the action takes place. It also possesses some nice swimming beaches.
If you crave a little peace and tranquility, you can catch a boat that leaves hourly from the dock (or brave a long 7-km/4.5-mile walk around the shore) to Canto da Lagoa. Surrounded by nature, this charming little village on the northwest shore is inhabited by a mixture of fisherfolk, artists, and alternativos. Boasting beaches and a nearby waterfall, it is also a relaxing spot to kick back and feast on fresh fish.
