Rio [1]’s most legendary concert hall is the Canecão (Av. Venceslau Brás 215, Botafogo, tel. 21/2105-2000, www.canecao.com.br [2]). Upon releasing new CDs, Brazil [3]’s major artists often kick off their national tours at this giant supper club next to Shopping Rio Sul.
Rio’s biggest concert hall is the gigantic, state-of-the-art Citibank Hall (Av. Ayrton Senna 3000, Shopping Via Parque, Barra da Tijuca, tel. 21/2156-7300, www.citibankhall.com.br [4]), where major national and international musical, theatrical, and dance events take place.
Located beneath the Arcos da Lapa [5], Circo Voador (Flying Circus, Rua dos Arcos, Lapa, tel. 21/2533-5873, www.circovoador.com.br [6]) has been one of the city’s most vanguard outdoor musical venues since the 1980s. It continues to host big national stars as well as alternative local bands and theatrical groups.
