As you’d expect, the South Carolina Cotton Museum (121 W. Cedar Ln., 803/484-4497, www.sccotton.org [1], Mon.–Sat., 9 a.m.–5 p.m., small fee) covers all aspects and effects that the staple crop had on the Pee Dee [2]. There’s farm equipment and a life-size farmhouse replica meant to simulate the “shotgun house” of a sharecropper (so named because a shotgun blast could shoot through every room due to its narrow frontage).
The gift shop offers a cool range of cotton-oriented items, and there’s a tribute to native son Felix “Doc” Blanchard, star Army football player.
