For a ridiculously hip night out with some ridiculously tasty PacRim cuisine, go straight to
SakiTumi (831 Gervais St., 803/931-0700, www.sakitumigrill.com [1], Mon.–Wed. 4:30–10 p.m., Thurs.–Sat. 4:30 p.m.–midnight, $12–18) in the Vista, with its somewhat hard-to-find entrance off Gervais Street. It’s loud, it’s dark, and the bar scene is as intriguing as its sushi rolls. Any tuna sushi or sashimi is the way to go here; they bring in whole tuna loins, cut to order on the spot. And do I have to tell you there’s a huge variety of hot and cold sakes? Note reservations are not accepted.
Nearby you’ll find Tsunami (700C Gervais St., 803/312-9911, www.tsunamicompany.com [2], daily 4:30 p.m.–midnight, $15–20), part of a South Carolina chain that specializes in both sushi and tasty hibachi entrées like scallops and filet mignon. Like Sakitumi, this is a dark, hip, haven for Columbia [3]
’s beautiful people.
