The aroma of fried chicken draws folks to the Somerset MarketPlace (48 Somerset Rd., tel. 441/234-0626, 8 a.m.–10 p.m. Mon.–Sat., 1–5 p.m. Sun.), the largest area grocery store and part of an islandwide chain. A full array of frozen and dry goods are sold, along with wines, beer, spirits, dairy, meat, and deli products.
Arnold’s Supermarket (41 Somerset Rd., tel. 441/234-2237, 7 a.m.–10 p.m. Mon.–Sat., 7 a.m.–midnight Sun.) sits just down the road east of MarketPlace but offers a much smaller selection of goods. The next-door Arnold’s Liquor Store (tel. 441/234-0963) does a roaring trade.
Maximart (42 Middle Rd., tel. 441/234-1940, 6:30 a.m.–midnight Mon.–Sat., 7 a.m.–5 p.m. Sun.) is a small modern supermarket, owned by the Arnold’s group. It has lots of parking and all the basics, including fresh fruits and vegetables.
