Tucked away in a concealed plaza on a treacherous bend, the West End branch of Jamaican Grill (23 Somerset Rd., tel. 441/234-4219, 11:30 a.m.–9 p.m. Mon.–Thurs., 11:30 a.m.–11 p.m. Fri. and Sat.) is where locals go for jerk chicken, fish curry, cocoa bread, codfish fritters, escaviche lobster, chicken wings, garlic shrimp, and tofu dishes. Parking is in the plaza.
Home turf of yachties and other neighborhood regulars, the Somerset Country Squire (10 Mangrove Bay Rd., tel. 441/234-0105, lunch 11:30 a.m.–4 p.m., dinner 6:30–10 p.m. daily) has a cave-like bar and dining room downstairs that’s used throughout the winter, and an alfresco bar and terrace, where fish dinners, fresh lobster, burgers, steak and kidney pies, and filet mignon are popular fare all summer long. A children’s menu is offered, too. Live TV sporting events, including NASCAR races and English soccer matches, draw a crowd of locals.
