One of the stores in the MarketPlace chain, it is most popular for its rotisserie chicken and takeout chicken fingers, available near the back of the store. Friendly staff and easy parking attract a regular parish clientele.
The large, busy Modern Mart (104 South Shore Rd., tel. 441/236-6161, 8 a.m.–10 p.m. Mon.–Sat., 1–5 p.m. Sun.) offers everything from groceries to foreign and local newspapers, greeting cards, toiletries, and pet paraphernalia. The store’s ample wine selection is worth a visit. Modern Mart’s butchers are particularly helpful and professional.
Burrows Lightbourn’s Corner Wine Shop (30 Harbour Rd. at Manse Rd., tel. 441/236-0355, 9 a.m.–6 p.m. Mon.–Sat.) is tiny but well stocked, with wines, spirits, and beer, plus hot pizza, pies, and sub sandwiches on hand daily.
