Owned by the Gibbons family, the beautifully landscaped 18-acre Palm Grove Gardens (38 South Shore Rd., tel. 441/295-0022, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Mon.–Thurs., admission free) stretches from the main road to the sea. A private home, it is open to the public during daytime hours most of the week.
Palm Grove Gardens is very popular for staging wedding photos, thanks to its well-planted gardens, complete with statues, water-lily ponds designed in the shape of a miniature map of the island, stunning night-blooming cereus blooms, sago, coconut and Canary Island palms, ivy-coated limestone huts, called butteries, and a traditional Bermuda moongate—said to bestow good luck upon newlyweds. There is also a tropical bird aviary with a collection of parrots.
