March’s Bermuda International Film Festival (tel. 441/293-3456, fax 441/293-7769, www.bermudafilmfest.com [1]) adds an unusual touch of bohemia to Hamilton’s [2] normally conservative ambience, as black-garbed twentysomethings from the West Village and Hollywood wander around incongruously between screenings. The showcase has made a name for itself on the world’s celluloid circuit and draws not only award-winning indie directors from the United States, Africa, and eastern Europe, but international film financiers intrigued by Bermuda’s offshore benefits.
Bermuda International Film Festival has also become a celebrity magnet, with appearances in the past by part-time Bermuda resident Michael Douglas, director Jim Sheridan, Carrie Fisher, Willem Dafoe, and The Green Mile’s Michael Clarke Duncan.
