Dining options on Jost Van Dyke [1] have increased in recent years, and there is a fair amount of variety for such a small island. Most island eateries specialize in West Indian–style food, but you can find international favorites too. Prices are generally high; expect a modest dinner for two to cost at least $50. Lunch is a bit more affordable. If you are staying somewhere with a kitchen and plan to cook, it is wise to shop for most groceries on Tortola [2]—selection is generally poor and prices high in the small shops on Jost.

Consider the opening and closing times given here as mere approximations, since many restaurants on Jost do not have set hours. As one White Bay [3] restaurant proprietor said, “I have no doors, so I’m always open.” But stroll in at 10 p.m. and ask for a steak, and you may be disappointed. In fact, many restaurants, especially the smaller ones, ask for dinner reservations. Most restaurants that serve breakfast claim to be open by 8:30 a.m., but if you’re on a tight schedule (or even if you’re not) it is a good idea to call the night before and make sure someone will be there in the morning.
