East End

A few years ago, the east end of Jost Van Dyke [1] was largely unknown to visitors. There was no reason for most people to venture that way since only a few people lived there and there were no restaurants, hotels, or well-known attractions. But in 2003 Foxy Callwood opened Foxy’s Taboo [2], built a dock, and began to draw visitors to one of the most beautiful parts of Jost Van Dyke.

The east end differs in character from other parts of Jost. The land around Taboo is flat and somewhat desolate; the flora includes cacti and other dry-weather plants. The small beach next to Taboo is rocky—not good for swimming—but the area is beautiful in an empty kind of way. The 1.25-acre Diamond Cay National Park juts out from the mainland just south of Taboo and is a nesting site for boobies and pelicans.
