Virgin Gorda [1] nightlife is quieter than on other islands but lively enough to satisfy just about anyone. Residents spend their evenings at basketball games, church events, neighborhood cookouts, sing-alongs, and local bars. Every so often one of the nightspots will host a jam featuring local or visiting artists. These events are usually advertised with fliers posted all around the island. You can also pick up a copy of the Limin’ Times for a complete rundown on nightlife and events.
There is live music nightly at The Rock Café (Tower Rd., 284/495-5482), where you can always count on a lively crowd. The piano bar at dinner gives way to up-tempo calypso, reggae, and soca later in the night. The Bath and Turtle (Yacht Harbour, 284/495-5239) and its neighboring Rendezvous Bar are good places for happy hour.
Perhaps the most celebrated nighttime entertainment takes place on Fridays when Chez Bamboo (Lee Rd., 284/495-5752) offers live jazz. The Mine Shaft (Coppermine Rd., 284/495-5260) has live music on Tuesday and Friday nights, plus proprietor Elton Sprauve throws a popular full moon party once a month.
The Bitter End Yacht Club (284/494-2745) and Leverick Bay Resort (284/495-7421) have entertainment most evenings, of the resort variety. The bar at Saba Rock [2] (284/495-7711) is often crowded with visiting yachters; there is sometimes live music or a DJ.
One of the best weekly events on Virgin Gorda [1] is the Friday night beach party at Leverick Bay, offering live music, a barbecue, and entertainment by stilt-walking mocko jumbies.
