Carrot Bay

Located between Apple Bay [1] and Cane Garden Bay [2] on the north shore, Carrot Bay is as traditional a village as you will find on Tortola [3]. Many men here continue to fish for a living, and most afternoons you can buy fresh catch from the wharf. The hillsides around Carrot Bay are verdant and moist, a good setting for farming. Two fruit and vegetable stands offer fresh produce to residents and passersby.

The pace and style of life in Carrot Bay is peaceful and community-focused. It is a nice place to go for a walk, or to sit on the waterfront and pass the time of day with whomever you meet.

If you need a more concrete reason to come, make it the North Shore Shell Museum (284/495-4714, free). Egbert Donovan combines hand-painted signs and collected shells for his funky island-style folk museum. Handmade musical instruments are also on display. Opening hours are unpredictable but generally run during daylight hours each day.
