The Department of Agriculture leases garden plots to local farmers in Paraquita Bay, one of the largest areas of undeveloped flat land on Tortola [1]. Farmers raise livestock or produce crops including sugarcane, bananas, mangos, tomatoes, and okra. Narrow paths between the plots make the area ideal for walking, and the station is an excellent place to see unusual fruits and vegetables. If you go in the early morning or late afternoon, you are likely to meet some of the farmers, who can answer your questions or sell you whatever’s in season.
