A small crescent of sand, ringed by low-growing sea grape trees and coconut palms, Jumbie Beach is a retreat. Only four parking spaces are provided, naturally limiting the number of people who visit this humble destination. Legends of ghosts (jumbies) haunting the beach do not help to draw crowds.
The sand at Jumbie Beach is coarse, yet fluffy, and there is shade. Snorkeling is good along the shallow reef, but be careful not to get too close, especially when the sea is rough. Sit on the beach for views of Trunk Bay [1] and Jost Van Dyke [2], plus distant ferry traffic.
Jumbie Beach is usually quiet, and if you have it to yourself you’ll be especially glad you came. Access is via stairs and a short path from North Shore Road. The parking spaces are about 40 yards west of the trailhead, on the opposite side of the road. Be careful of traffic.
