Russian tenor Ivan Jadan and his wife, Doris, spent 40 years living together on St. John [1] before Ivan’s death in 1995. Today, Doris is loving curator of the Ivan Jadan Museum (251 Contant, 340/776-6423, www.ijadan.vi [2]), a private museum housed in the Jadan home. Russian-born Ivan Jadan was a celebrated singer at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow and at other venues around the country before World War II broke out. Jadan escaped Russia in 1941 and spent the rest of his life as an exile from his homeland. In the 1950s, the Jadans moved to St. John.
The Ivan Jadan Museum houses a wide-ranging collection about Jadan’s most extraordinary life and music. Call ahead to confirm that Doris is home before stopping by.
