Yacht Haven

St. Thomas [1]’s newest shopping destination is also its most upscale. The Yacht Haven Grande (9100 Port of Sale, www.yachthavengrande.com [2], 340/774-5030) is a marina and outdoor mall, with restaurants, boutiques, and condos. It’s located between Havensight [3] and downtown. You can walk along the waterfront to get here or drive; there’s plenty of parking.

Yacht Haven is Charlotte Amalie [4]’s downtown shopping district on Prozac. The pathways are cleared of litter; the grass is green and neat; and there are no pushy taxi drivers or mysterious odors. Though just a few years old, the buildings are faux old-world, with imitation cobblestones and flourishes made to look like classic island-style colonial.

Where the ambience is questionable, Yacht Haven offers some great shopping. As you would expect for a marina designed specifically for mega-yachts, high-end is the name of the game. Retailers include bebe, Coach, Louis Vuitton, and Roberto Coin. At How About Your Pet you can purchase all manner of toys, clothing, and cutesy accessories for your dog (there’s not much for cats). Natural Home is a small boutique specializing in authentic Turkish rugs, towels, and sheets for the home. There are also coffee shops, ice cream parlors, and several restaurants to keep you fueled up during your spree. Shops at Yacht Haven are generally open 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday–Saturday.
