To the chagrin of some and the delight of others, St. Thomas [1] has opened the door to gambling with the arrival of slot machines. Southland Gaming of the Virgin Islands (340/777-7568) operates gaming machines in some 55 locations throughout St. Thomas. Dozens of bars and restaurants around the island have a machine or two, with larger “gaming complexes” at hotels (including the Wyndham Sugar Bay and the Holiday Inn Windward Passage) and shopping malls (including Crown Bay [2] and Havensight [3]).
