Havensight is the shopping district around the cruise ship dock, on the eastern end of Charlotte Amalie [1] Harbor. A large outdoor mall and additional stores in the vicinity attract shoppers nearly every day of the year.
You can take a seven-minute ride on an open-air tramway to spectacular views of the Charlotte Amalie Harbor. Paradise Point Tramway (340/774-9809, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Thurs.–Tues., 9 a.m.–9 p.m. Wed., $16 adults, $8 children 6–12, under 6 free) departs from a depot opposite Havensight Mall and carries passengers in a tram to the scenic overlook. In addition to the view, the overlook offers a bar, restaurant, shops, and regular entertainment involving talking parrots. If you are land-based, you can also drive to Paradise Point by taking the road on the western side of Al Cohen’s Plaza.
Learn about the life cycle of a butterfly and observe these delicate insects at The Butterfly Farm (Havensight, 340/715-3366, www.thebutterflyfarm.com [2], 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m. daily, adults $15, children $9). Inside a netted garden near the cruise ship dock, thousands of different butterflies flutter to the delight of visitors. Guides describe the lives of butterflies, beginning as eggs, becoming caterpillars, and metamorphosing into butterflies.
