Clyfford Still is known as one of the great abstract expressionist painters of the last century and also somewhat of a recluse. Though Still did not ever reside in Colorado, Denver’s mayor John Hickenlooper was able to convince Still’s widow to house the artist’s remaining unseen collection in a new museum in Denver [2].
According to the New York Times, one of Still’s paintings sold for over $21 million at a Christie’s auction in 2007. The Clyfford Still Museum is slated to open in 2010 and will be located on the same lot as the new wing of the Denver Art Museum [3].
