Film entertainers have also made their mark in Michigan. Jeff Daniels may be a Hollywood type, but the Georgia native prefers to live in tiny Chelsea [1], a village west of Ann Arbor [2], where the actor-director founded the acclaimed Purple Rose Theatre (named after the Woody Allen film in which he starred). Other successful filmmakers and performers, who were actually born in the Great Lakes State, include directors Sam Raimi and Francis Ford Coppola and actors Ellen Burstyn, Gilda Radner, Timothy Busfield, Tom Selleck, Ernie Hudson, Lee Majors, Piper Laurie, and Charlton Heston, among others.
