Among skiers and snowboarders, Marquette Mountain (4501 M-553, 906/225-1155, www.marquettemountain.com [1], $30–35) gets the thumbs-up for its 600-foot vertical drop, one of the highest in the state. The 23 trails may not be exceptionally long, but they offer good variety—including bumps and tree runs—and the half-pipe and terrain park grow and improve every year.
Located just three miles south of Marquette [2] on M-553, it’s popular all week long among local residents and college students. Night skiing is offered Tuesday–Sunday in season, which usually runs from about mid-November to early April.
