Having made the case for leaving the car behind, you should also know that Pictured Rocks [1] has three auto-accessible campgrounds—Beaver Lake [2], Twelvemile Beach [3], and Hurricane River—with water and pit toilets. No reservations are accepted, and fees are $10 per night. Backcountry camping is permitted only at designated hike-in sites, mostly along the Lakeshore Trail. A $15 permit is required, good for 1–6 campers, and for any number of nights. Most sites do not have water or toilets. Camping is also available in Munising [4], Grand Marais [5], and the Lake Superior State Forest [6], which borders Pictured Rocks [1] to the south.
