Call of the Wild Museum

While this unassuming museum has been around for decades (during which the displays haven’t changed all that much), the Call of the Wild Museum (850 S. Wisconsin Ave., 989/732-4336, www.gocallofthewild.com [1], 9 a.m.–9 p.m. daily June 15–Labor Day, 9:30 a.m.–6 p.m. Mon.–Sat. in winter, $7 adults, $4.50 children 5–13) is still a terrific place to take your children for a little while.

Many of its wildlife displays come packed with audio features, bringing the animals to life. Creepy, yet fascinating, the two projected images of Joseph Bailly help to educate visitors about what life was like in the early 1800s, when he (one of the area’s first trappers) initially ventured into the Michigan area.
