Lodging choices are pretty limited in Rogers City [1]. The best place in town (and the only place with an indoor pool) is the 43-room Driftwood Motel (540 W. 3rd St., 989/734-4777, $49–99 d), which overlooks Lake Huron.
Adjacent to the motel, the Buoy Restaurant (530 N. 3rd St., 989/734-4747, 11 a.m.–7 p.m. daily, $7–19) serves up Lake Huron views and fish dishes.
Hotels and restaurants in Alpena [1] have a funky, nostalgic vibe, as if you’ve been transported back to the 1950s or ’60s. Chief among them are the 40 Winks Motel (1021 State St., 989/354-5622, $49–69 d), with simple rooms opposite Lake Huron.
