Elvis was big in Baltimore [2]—he embodied much of the city’s white, Southern, working-class sensibility—and The King lives on today at Nacho Mama’s, out front (as a statue) and on the walls (in velvet). The food here is Mexican, served with a wink (chips and salsa arrive in old hubcaps, as do some of the margaritas) but also with a real eye toward balancing quality and quantity. Fajitas (from veggie to tenderloin) are popular, as are the enormous burritos, quesadillas, and enchiladas.
There is also beer aplenty; to blend in, order a “Natty Boh,” shorthand for National Bohemian, a once-locally-brewed cheap, cold brew that’s still a big seller.
