The only publication that covers Wisconsin on a macro scale is the monthly magazine Wisconsin Trails (www.wistrails.com [1]). It’s a slick periodical with a nice balance of road warrior personality and nostalgia. It dispenses with the political and social and just focuses on where and when to go, providing lots of good cultural bits and stunning photography. Midwest Living magazine, another monthly, features Wisconsin regularly. More for the conservation-minded, Wisconsin Natural Resources (www.wnrmag.com [2]) is published by the state Department of Natural Resources. The well-put-together periodical features detailed natural history and is so well written and photographed that it might let you truly understand and appreciate science for the first time.
The Journal Sentinel, the largest and best of Wisconsin’s newspapers, is a daily morning paper out of Milwaukee. This leaves Madison as the only major Wisconsin city with three papers—the morning Wisconsin State Journal, the biweekly Capital Times, and Isthmus. In general, folks consider the former more conservative, the latter two more liberal.
