Milwaukee [1] remains something of an anomaly—the smallest of the small markets. And most markets of comparable size support just one major league franchise, not three, as Milwaukee does.
Debate over a proposed $200 million (ultimately $400 million) retractable dome stadium for the Brewers raged before the bill to pay for it was finally passed—some say rammed through—in an epic all-night session of the Wisconsin Legislature that cost at least one legislator his job in a recall election (and the death of three workers in a horrific accident during construction).
Whatever your take on it, the stadium is absolutely magnificent. It has been described as the most perfect synthesis of retro and techno in the world—do check it out.
Baseball season runs early April–late September, and obtaining tickets is sometimes an issue, especially on weekends or whenever the archenemy Chicago Cubs come to town. This true-blue Brew Crew fan is happy to report that at the time of keys-thwacking, the Brewers were in first place for the first time in 17 years!
