Overlooking Lake Michigan, the Charles Allis Art Museum (1801 N. Prospect Ave., 414/278-8295, www.cavtmuseums.org [1], 1–5 p.m. Wed.–Sun., $5 adults, $8 including Villa Terrace) is in a Tudor mansion built by the first president of Allis-Chalmers, a major city employer. It has a superb collection of world art, fine furniture, and nearly 1,000 objets d’art dating back as far as 500 B.C. and covering the entire world.
Charles Allis Art Museum’s posh interiors feature Tiffany windows, silk wall coverings, and loads of marble. A special extra: some nights local bands play and your museum entrance ticket gets you in.
