Constructed in 1891, the majestic Gaches Mansion at 2nd and Calhoun was restored after a 1973 fire gutted the structure. The first floor contains turn-of-the-20th-century furnishings, while the upstairs houses the La Conner Quilt & Textile Museum (360/466-4288, www.laconnerquilts.com [1], 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Wed.–Sun., by appointment only Mon. and Tues., $5 adults, free for members and kids under 12), with changing exhibits and a small gift shop that sells locally made quilts. It is one of 10 such museums in the country.
Just around the corner from the Gaches Mansion at 2nd and Commercial, you’ll find an 1869 log cabin that was moved here from the Skagit River. Nearby are the old brick city hall from 1886 and historic Maple Hall, used for theatrical and music performances.
