There are so many great bed-and-breakfasts in Bucks County [1] that choosing one can be difficult. One of the most luxurious bed-and-breakfasts in the world is located here in New Hope [2], just 2.5 miles from the center of town.
The
Inn at Bowman’s Hill (518 Lurgan Rd., New Hope, 215/862-8090, www.theinnatbowmanshill.com [3]) has just four romantic rooms and two dramatic, elegant extended suites on a private five-acre estate. The inn was voted one of the “top 10 most romantic inns” by American Historic Inns in 2006, among countless other accolades. When the weather is warm, a pool offers a lovely place to swim, and when it’s colder, the in-room fireplaces and in-room and outdoor whirlpool tubs offer luxurious warmth. A gourmet breakfast is included in the rate, and in-room massage is available for a fee. With rooms and suites from around $295–525 per night, a stay here does not come cheap, but for a romantic getaway or special occasion, there is no place better.
The Lambertville House (2 Bridge St., Lambertville, 609/397-0200, www.lambertvillehouse.com [4]) in the heart of Lambertville, just steps from the bridge into New Hope [2], has 26 rooms offering every modern amenity. Most rooms have in-room fireplaces, some have oversized whirlpool tubs, and all have ultra-comfy beds. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it was built in 1812, and has provided rest to Presidents Andrew Johnson and Ulysses S. Grant, among other notable guests, on their travels between New York and Philadelphia [5]. Have a drink on the pretty front porch of the cozy bar Left Bank Libations, perfect for people-watching. Rates start at $200.
Hotel du Village (2535 River Rd., New Hope, 215/862-9911, www.hotelduvillage.com [6]) is a unique, affordable alternative about a mile outside of New Hope. There are 20 rooms on the grounds of what was formerly a prep school for young girls and boys. There is a cozy, upscale French restaurant on-site, and rates range $130–155 with breakfast included.
In Doylestown, try the Doylestown Inn (18 W. State St., 215/345-6610, www.doylestowninn.com [7]). Built in 1902, it has been updated with a modern look and amenities. A brand-new bar and grill opened in 2007, and rates range $145–220 depending on the time of year, with prices considerably cheaper January–March.
There are also plenty of campgrounds nearby that range from rustic sites to modern compounds with pools and mini-golf courses. Tinicum Park (901 E. Bridgetown Pike, Erwinna, 215/348-6114) is a popular one, for camping as well as hiking and other outdoor activities.
