Another charming Bucks County [1] town and cultural center, Doylestown is home to several impressive museums. Three of them, all National Historic Landmarks, are within a short distance of one another in what has become known as Mercer Mile.
They all celebrate the life, work, and collections of Henry Chapman Mercer (1856–1930), a local archaeologist, writer, anthropologist, ceramist, scholar, antiquarian, and collector who spent his life in the area. Mercer built three memorable structures: Fonthill [2], the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works [3], and the Mercer Museum [4].
