This wildly successful national chain began right here in Philly [2], founded by the same clothiers behind the even better-known Urban Outfitters [3]. The more sophisticated, higher-quality and pricier big sister to Urban, Anthropologie is a fusion of French country and Indian Bazaar–inspired, sophisticated high-end women’s wear…or something like that.
It’s basically filled with pretty, feminine well-made clothes and accessories. Home goods fill the lower level of the three-story historic Rittenhouse Square [4] mansion, a building that epitomizes the lifestyle of many of its well-to-do patrons.
Be prepared to shell out big bucks for embellished cotton sundresses in the summer and cozy, intricately detailed woolens in the frostier months.
