Nobly dubbed “The Grand Old Lady of Broad Street,” the Academy of Music has been a proud institution since 1857. It is the oldest grand opera house in the United States still functioning as an opera house today. The regal Renaissance-style theater is adorned with wood carvings, ceiling murals, and an impressive crystal chandelier hanging elegantly overhead.
Home to the Opera Company of Philadelphia and the Pennsylvania Ballet, the Academy of Music is no stranger to the most gifted musicians that come through the city. Over the years it has hosted Igor Stravinsky, Richard Strauss, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Joan Sutherland, and a myriad of other world-renowned artists and composers.
