The Painted Bride Art Center was a flower child in 1969, when it moved from South Street to Old City—long before the former warehouse neighborhood was the hot spot it is today. Stepping past the colorful mirror-and-tile mosaic exterior, you’ll enter a large gallery space showcasing the works of daring young artists.
The theater features dance, world music, performance, jazz, and more, with a focus on works that make social and political statements as well as advocacy for excluded communities. The Bride features both local faves and international stars, and is responsible for Philadelphia’s [2] longest-running jazz series.
