700 N. 2nd St., 215/413-3181
On other days, the 700 Club is just a local watering hole and causal neighborhood hangout, but on Thursday–Saturday nights, the small 2nd-floor dance floor becomes a sweaty free-for-all as the deejay spins hip-hop, indie rock, and ’80s for the mostly 20-something crowd.
It looks and feels like Grandma’s house—complete with old, musty furniture and a psuedo kitchenette as a bar. The lights are low enough to hide the stains on the upholstery and to encourage you to dance like no one is watching.
The 700 Club takes you back to the days of high school parties when your parents were out of town and drinking was an exhilarating, illicit event.
