Pat’s and Geno’s get all the publicity, followed by Jim’s [2], but ask a real Philly eater who serves the best sandwich in town and your answer very well may be John’s.
On the same South Philadelphia corner since 1930, John’s is a no-frills joint, with little more than a counter and an outdoor table for accommodations.
The cheesesteaks—greasy, oozing cheese on perfect rolls—are simply delicious. The roast pork sandwiches, it should go without saying, are also exceptional.
John’s closes by mid-afternoon, so get there early if you want to taste some of the best sandwiches in Philadelphia [3].
