Owned and operated by vegan husband-and-wife team Rich Landau (chef) and Kate Jacoby (pastry chef), Horizons moved into Philadelphia [2] from the suburbs in 2006, much to the delight of many locals.
The kitchen serves colorful combinations of seitan, tofu, tempeh, and vegetables, arranged in delightful presentations with flavors that do not disappoint.
Avocado, mango, tomato, and veggie mixtures brighten most plates, and creative “New Vegan” items include hits like deviled oyster mushroom fritters and garbanzo-crusted tempeh.
The bar features tropical margaritas and mojitos along with a nice wine list, or try a caipirinha, a signature spirit that finishes the Jamaican BBQ seitan well.
The chic upstairs dining room has a breezy, island decor, with pretty colors and a bamboo fan in the high wooden ceilings. It is small and popular, so try to make reservations about a week in advance, or for those eating on a whim, the lounge downstairs is an option.
The lounge hosts a happy hour Tuesday–Thursday, 5:30–7:30 p.m.
