The original still sits at 431 N. 62nd St., but it’s the South Street location that brings the crowds, with a line that wraps around the corner on weekend nights. Jim’s Steaks is a Philadelphia [2] landmark, serving a mean cheesesteak that is rarely left out of any “great cheesesteak” debate. Signed photographs of famous people who have eaten at Jim’s line the walls on two floors.
The menu offers more options than famous competitors Pat’s and Geno’s a few blocks to the south, with more fixins’ and hoagies, soups, Italian sausage, and vegetarian steaks among the choices.
Bright fluorescent lights can be tough during late-night visits, but if you’re passing after a night out on the town, you will not be able to resist the smell wafting out onto the street.
