Audrey Claire was at the forefront of Philadelphia’s [2] popular BYOB [3] onslaught, and the cash-only restaurant named after her continues to pack guests into its small but airy location near Rittenhouse Square [4].
The menu is divided into smaller and larger plates, and each section offers standouts. Seared brussels sprouts with parmesan are unlike anything your mother tried to feed you, while the pear-and-gorgonzola flatbread blends sweet and tart to perfection.
If you opt for larger dishes, grilled rack of lamb and a hearty pork chop are both stellar, and make sure to inquire about the specials.
By the same owner, Twenty Manning (261 S. 20th St., 215/731-0900) is another local favorite located a block north across 20th Street. A stylish bistro feel and a full bar menu of specialty drinks make this a popular date restaurant. Both offer sidewalk seating.
