You no longer have to go to deep South Philly to get a perfect Tony Luke’s cheesesteak. The Rittenhouse branch offers the same sandwiches on perfect rolls, in classic form or dressed with Italian ingredients of your choosing like broccoli rabe or roasted peppers.
In addition to cheesesteaks, the roasted pork, sausage and pepper, breakfast, and veggie sandwich are all popular, but if you’ve never had one, stick with the cheesesteak.
If you get a chance, you should still check out the original Tony Luke’s in South Philly (39 E. Oregon Ave., 215/551-5725), which not only has the awesome food but also the traditional atmosphere.
Tony Luke’s Beef and Beer Sports Bar (26 E. Oregon Ave.) is also just down the street.
