Arlington’s airport is the third largest general aviation facility in Puget Sound and calls itself the world’s largest ultralight airport. On the second weekend of July, it is home to the Northwest Experimental Aircraft Association Fly-In (360/435-5857, www.arlingtonflyin.org [1]), America’s third biggest fly-in. It includes experimental planes, military aircraft, hot-air balloons, and an air show.
The weekends around the 4th of July bring Arlington Festival (www.ci.arlington.wa.us [2]), the town’s annual celebration, with parades, an auto show, triathlon, and rubber duck race.
The third week in June brings the Strawberry Festival (360/659-766, www.marysvillestrawberryfestival.com [3]), the town’s tribute to one of its major crops. This is the area’s biggest summer event, with parades, a carnival, car show, art and food booths, and adult trike races.
Starting in late September, several local farms create amazingly intricate corn mazes and open their pumpkin patches for family fun and frolics in the fields. Get a brochure showing the locations from the chamber of commerce. The best corn maze is created by The Farm (7301 Rivershore Rd., 425/334-4124).
The town’s biggest event is Kla Ha Ya Days (360/568-7076, www.klahayadays.com [4]) on the third week of July. Kla Ha Ya is Snohomish for Welcome; activities include a carnival, parade, frog jump, arts and crafts, and entertainment.
The Snohomish Classic Car and Hot Rod Display (360/568-2526, http://cityofsnohomish.com [5]) is the last Sunday of September. Over 700 cars and trucks line the streets of downtown Snohomish.
