Forest Service Road 83’s two Sno-Parks offer a wide area for winter activities, including cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. Most popular is the Marble Mountain Sno-Park, located seven miles east of Cougar on Forest Rd. 90, and another six miles up Road 83.
Get a Sno-Park permit ($11) and ski trail maps at Cougar Store (16842 Lewis River Rd., 360/238-5228, winter Sun.–Thurs. 6 a.m.–8 p.m., Fri.–Sat. 6 a.m.–9 p.m.). Snowmobilers must also purchase an additional $30 annual permit.
A large log warming shelter is open here in the winter months and includes a woodstove. Rent it as a summertime cabin (June–Oct., $100 for up to 10 people) from the Forest Service (360/247-3900).
