Leavenworth’s [1] bakeshops provide something for all tastes. The Gingerbread Factory (828 Commercial St., 509/548-6592 or 800/296-7097, Thurs.–Mon. 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.) is famous for its wonderful soft gingerbread cookies and houses; try the amusingly decorated cookies even if you aren’t generally a gingerbread fan. The lunchtime deli here is a local favorite for salads, sandwiches, and espresso.
The Danish Bakery (731 Front St., 509/548-7514, daily 9 a.m.–6 p.m.) sells fresh soft pretzels and outstanding Danish pastries and cookies. Near the fish hatchery is Homefires Bakery (13013 Bayne Rd., 509/548-7362, Mon.–Sat. 6 a.m.–6 p.m., Sun. 6 a.m.–5 p.m.), where delicious sourdough breads, pies, and cinnamon rolls emerge from a German brick oven. Homefires is a popular stopping place for hikers and cyclists.
Monaco’s Corner Store (703 Front St., 509/548-7216, Sun.–Thurs. 9 a.m.–7 p.m., Fri.–Sat. 9 a.m.–8 p.m.) offers sweets, healthy sandwiches, and espresso coffees.
Leavenworth Farmers Market (509/667-8654) takes place 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Tuesday mid-June to mid-September next to the swimming pool.
