The Granite Falls Museum (109 E. Union St., 360/691-2603, www.gfhistory.org [1], 1–4 p.m. Sun. in summer, closed in winter) houses local memorabilia; check out the cross section from an enormous 1,200-year-old Douglas fir tree in the front.

Just east of town is the Granite Falls Fish Ladder, the world’s longest vertical baffle fish ladder when it was built in 1954. Stop here to marvel at the raging South Fork of the Stillaguamish River as it roils over the falls (actually more of a giant rapids) for which the town was named. Salmon swim up a 240-foot tunnel dug through the granite.
