Accommodations near Mt. Baker [1] are mostly in the form of cabins, B&Bs, and condos; the closest are in the town of Glacier, 15 miles below Mt. Baker Ski Area [2]. Note that many places require a two-night minimum on weekends and have higher rates around Christmas and New Year’s. Call well ahead for weekend reservations during the ski season.

One of the best sources of options is the well-rounded reservation service offered by Mt. Baker Lodging (360/599-2453 or 800/709-7669, www.mtbakerlodging.com [3]), which offers dozens of chalets, cabins and condos along the Mount Baker Highway.

Set within a modern chalet just a half mile west of Glacier, Mt. Baker B&B (9447 Mt. Baker Hwy., Glacier, 360/599-2299, www.mtbakerbedandbreakfast.com [4], $80–110) serves full breakfasts and offers a steaming hot tub perfect to soothe the old bones after a day of hiking or skiing.

The log cabin Glacier Guest Suite (8040 Mt. Baker Hwy., 360/599-2927, www.mt-baker.com/glacier.html [5], $105 s or d) overlooks Nooksack River Valley with views of Mt. Baker [1] and the 100-acre farmstead it sits on. The cabin comes with a kitchenette and fireplace, and a continental breakfast is served each morning.

Situated between the whooshing serenity of Glacier and Gallup Creeks, Glacier Creek Lodge (10036 Mt. They even have a barrier-free cabin available for outdoor lovers with disabilities. All guests are also granted access to an outdoor hot tub.

The Logs at Canyon Creek (9002 Mt. Baker Hwy., 360/599-2711, $125 s or d, $250–300 up to 8) has five cozy cabins with fireplaces, kitchens, and a swimming pool along the Nooksack River. The Guest House (5723 Schornbush Rd., Deming, 360/592-2343, $50 d) is a quaint a country cottage with kitchenette.
