About a mile east of town off I-82, an oasis of green awaits at Yakima Sportsman State Park. Year-round, kids can fish the pond, stocked with bluegill, trout, catfish, and carp. Adults can try their luck on the nearby Yakima River. Tent sites run $19 and RV sites are $26. ADA sites are available, as are coin-operated showers. Wenas Creek Campground is home to the Hazel Wolf Bird Sanctuary in the Wenas Valley. Camping here is primitive—we mean it! There is no fresh water available and you can expect to dig your own trenches.

Stagecoach RV Park (16201 N. Wenas Rd., 509/697-9650, www.stagecoachrv.com [2], $20 daily or $120 weekly) is in nearby Selah; there are no tent spaces here. Generators are not permitted. Trailer Inns (1610 N. 1st St., 509/452-9561 or 800/659-4784, www.trailerinnsrv.com [3]) charges $20–38 depending on length of trailer and camping space selected.

The Yakama Nation Resort RV Park, next to the Cultural Heritage Center (280 Buster Rd., 509/865-2000 or 800/874-3087, www.winesnw.com/YakNtnRVListing.htm [4]) has 125 parking spaces for RVs ($26), plus 14 very popular tepees ($30, sleeps five), a tent-camping area ($16), outdoor pool, hot tub, two saunas, exercise room, and other facilities.
