Enjoy the bike path from Cambridge Drive to Rooks Park, or from 9th and Dalles Military Road to Myra Road. For a more adventurous ride, head out scenic Old Milton Highway south of town. It’s especially pretty in the fall.
Walla Walla [1] is a fly fisher’s paradise, giving you the drop on unsuspecting trout, smallmouth bass, and the mighty steelhead. Stone Creek Fly Fishers (509/520-7039, http://stonecreekflyfishers.com [2]) teaches introductory classes for beginners, including special classes for women and children. Guide service is also available.
Outdoor summer-only swimming pools (509/527-1099) include one in Jefferson Park (9th Ave. and Malcolm St.) and a 50-meter pool on Rees Avenue at Sumach Street.
Veteran’s Memorial Golf Course (201 E. Rees Ave., 509/527-4507, http://vetsgolf.com [3]), off Highway 12, is an 18-hole course open to the public. Greens fees are $29 for 18 holes or $16.75 for just the front nine.
For information on hiking and camping in the Blue Mountains of Umatilla National Forest, visit the Walla Walla Ranger Station (1415 W. Rose St., 509/522-6290, www.fs.fed.us/r6/uma [4]).
RVs can park and dump at Four Seasons RV Resort (1440 Dalles Military Rd., 509/529-6072, $28 per night or $168 for seven days), a privately run campground.
Tent campers can pitch at Lewis and Clark Trail State Park (509/337-6457), 26 miles northeast of Walla Walla [1]. Standard tent sites large enough to fit RVs are available April 1–September 15. Primitive sites are open year-round. No reservations are accepted at this park.
