The section of coastline between Westport [1] and North Cove is known as both South Beach and the Cranberry Coast—the former because it is the southern entrance to Grays Harbor [2], the latter because of the bogs east near Grayland that produce much of the state’s cranberry crop. The area is especially popular for sportfishing but also offers long beaches, good surfing, and reasonably priced lodging.
The beaches are favorites of post-storm beachcombers who still turn up an occasional glass ball from old Japanese fishing floats.
Grays Harbor Transit (360/532-2770 or 800/562-9730, www.ghtransit.com [3]) provides daily bus service throughout the county, including Westport [1], Aberdeen [4], Lake Quinault [5], and Ocean Shores [6].
