At E. 9th and N. I Streets, Aberdeen’s [1] Samuel Benn Park has rose and rhododendron gardens, tennis courts, a playground, and picnic facilities. Lake Aberdeen at the east entrance to town has swimming and nonmotorized boating and play equipment. For an indoor pool, head to the Hoquiam Aquatic Center (717 K St., 360/533-3474).
Campsites are available at Lake Sylvia State Park (360/249-3621, www.parks.wa.gov [2], open late Mar.–Sept., $9–14 for tents, no hookups) near Montesano, approximately 12 miles east of Aberdeen.
Situated near 20 acres of heavily wooded wilderness, near a creek with catchable crawdads, Arctic Park (893 Hwy. 101, Aberdeen, 360/533-4470, http://users.techline.com/articrv/ [3], $22 with full hookups, $10 tents) offers an unusual amount of privacy over the typical corral-type RV park, with vegetation separating many sites. The owners grow a garden with veggies and berries that guests are welcome to pick, and the property includes showers, a volleyball court, and a convenience store. Nearby there’s 1.5 miles of trails that run through the forest.
